Our History, Mission, Promise & Culture

Our History

Irwin's was founded in 1951 by Robert H. Irwin as a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Laconia. Ford was added a few years later in 1955. Peter Irwin, second generation, added Toyota in 1979 and then Scion in 2002. Irwin's Used Car Center was built in 1994 and was located at 446 Union Ave in Laconia. Chris Irwin, 3rd generation, in 2009 completed a 12,000 sq foot expansion of their Bisson Ave location which now totals 72,000 sq feet on more than 15 acres. Laconia Quicklane Tire and Auto Center was started in the late fall of 2010. Hyundai was acquired in 2011 and moved into the renovated used car store at 446 Union Ave in the Winter of 2012. In the Spring of 2013 NH Car Credit, a division of Irwin's was established.

Irwin's involvement in the comminity has been a staple in the Lakes Region for years, highlighted by: $50,000 to the Laconia High School Capital Campaign, $25,000 donation to the Laconia Public Library Construction project, $3,500 donated for MS, 100 Turkey's donated to St Vincent DePaul each Thanksgiving, $2,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club, donations to Community Health & Hospice, the Lion's Club, the Laconia Putnam Fund, and the Lakes Region General Hospital Board of Trustees. In addition, Irwin's has provided for years, at no charge, winter indoor hitting and pitching facility for local Little League and ASA girls softball along with donating a $10,000 electronic scoreboard to Laconia Little League. Over the course of the last sixty plus years Irwin's has given back to the community in excess of $1,200,000!

Throughout it all there remains a constant: "to treat every guest as our best friend."

While we certainly don't want to boast about donations and charitable contributions we've made over the years, we've found that many of our current customers and prospective customers want to see what we have done as they want to do business with a local company that gives back. Below are some of the donations and contributions that we've made recently. Please feel free to contact us if you have any organization you'd like us to help. We welcome your feedback. - Chris Irwin

"We bought our car at Irwin's because it is hassle free shopping. The salesmen were helpful and not pushy. It took a few months to make up our mind (without being called every day by our salesman) and when we were ready he was there to help us. Every time we bring our car for service they take the car immediately. Service is quick, staff very friendly."

- Lisa S., Campton, NH

"This is my 9th car from Irwin's. I simply won't go anywhere else. Anyone who asks me about buying or servicing a vehicle I tell them to go to Irwin's. It's a no brainer. Great price, great service and very easy to do business with."

- Greg G., Meredith, NH

"Irwin's had always supported the community. My family appreciates that and that is one of the reasons we keep coming back."

"My son played on the Irwin's basketball team. The following year they donated the scoreboard to the Little League Field when he moved up to Little League. It means a lot to us that Irwin's cares about the local community. Thank you."

- Bill F., Laconia, NH

"I've been part of the Lakes Region community for over 20 years. Throughout that time as much as Irwin's has been known as a car dealer they are equally synonymous with the giving back to the community to me and my family. We really appreciate that level of commitment."
